Hip joint is one of the most potent joint of the human body not because of the fact that it is a complex joint but it has a very pivotal role to play in the human skeletal system i.e. it supports and carries the body weight both in static states (when standing) and in dynamic states(when running or walking).

What should you do to keep your hip joint healthy?

1) Maintain a healthy and active lifestyle

2) Indulge in some kind of physical activity at least 30 minutes daily

3) Swimming is stated to be the best exercise. If possible go for it.

4) Have a healthy diet including whole grains, nuts and fresh fruits in your daily diet.

5) Perform simple hip exercises like:

• Lie flat on a firm surface and bend your knees, then from your hip move the bend knees sideways first on left then right (make sure you concentrate on your breathing).


• Similarly lie sideways and raise your leg alternatively and remember to pay attention to your breathing.

• Now sit with your back supporting a wall and legs spread forward take a big towel or cloth and take it across your feet and hold it in your hands and then pull the towel towards yourself and count till 10(you can increase the count as you progress)and repeat it 2 times a day. Breathe in as you feel the stretch and out as you loosen it.

• Stand facing a wall and bend your knee and with your hand try to stretch your foot towards your back and hold the stretch till the count of 10 and repeat it 2 times a day.
What you should avoid doing?

• Avoid cross leg sitting or squatting over a prolonged period of time.

• Avoid any undue stress or pressure over the joint.

• Avoid excessive twisting or jerky movement.

• Avoid prolonged sitting on a chair with a hard base.
